Finding an independent café in Canary Wharf already feels like a small win. Finding one that focuses on low-carb, keto, vegan, gluten-free, and high-protein desserts feels like discovering a hidden treasure. That is exactly what Yummzy is.

In an area dominated by chain cafés and restaurants, Yummzy stands out not just for being independent, but for being genuinely inclusive. During my visits, I had the opportunity to speak with the founders, who shared that one of the key motivations behind opening Yummzy was the lack of exclusive gluten-free dessert cafés in East London. One of the founders has Type 1 diabetes, and their approach was clear: a diagnosis should never mean settling for boring food.

That philosophy shows in everything Yummzy does.

First Impressions and Atmosphere

I have visited Yummzy a few times with my run club, and each visit has felt relaxed and welcoming. It is the kind of place where you can walk in after a workout, sit down comfortably, and not feel out of place ordering dessert.

One thing I noticed straight away was how transparent their menu is. Almost every dessert lists nutritional information, including calorie counts and protein content. Seeing things like a high-protein brownie on a dessert menu was something I had genuinely never come across before.

What I Tried

On this visit, I ordered an oat cappuccino along with their rocky biscuit, which contains 8.5 grams of protein and around 176 calories.

The coffee was exceptionally smooth, easily one of the best I have had in East London. It was well balanced, not overpowering, and allowed the flavour of the coffee itself to come through clearly. The rocky biscuit was a standout. It felt more like a soft cake with a subtle crunch inside, and every bite tasted fresh and indulgent without being heavy.

What really impressed me was learning that their chocolate is made in-house using pure cocoa. That freshness was noticeable and added depth to the dessert without making it overly sweet.

Pricing and Overall Experience

The pricing at Yummzy is very reasonable, especially when you consider the nutritional benefits and ingredient quality. It feels like a place where you can comfortably enjoy a dessert after a long run without feeling like you have undone all the effort.

The staff deserve special mention. They were incredibly kind and happy to explain the menu in detail, even during busy periods. That level of patience and enthusiasm adds a lot to the overall experience.

I did not need to focus much on aesthetics, but it is worth noting that I have heard the Breeze app even sets up dates at Yummzy, which says a lot about how comfortable and appealing the space is.

Final Thoughts

Yummzy manages to strike a rare balance. It caters to people who are health-conscious without making the food feel restrictive, and it welcomes everyone without making it feel exclusive. Whether you are following Veganuary, managing dietary requirements, or simply want a good dessert and coffee, this is a place worth visiting.

I can train, go on long runs, and enjoy dessert right after, all without guilt, thanks to Yummzy.
