This was the week I was craving mutton and nothing else, if I am being honest. I had a mutton biryani the day before that left me deeply disappointed, so when a friend was heading off to Manchester and we decided to grab food near Euston Station, I knew exactly where I wanted redemption. That is how we ended up at Roti King.
First Impressions
One of the first things that gave me confidence was the queue. Roti King is a five minute walk from Euston Station, and the restaurant itself is small, with an open kitchen so you can watch the food being made right in front of you. The queue outside was huge, which only made me more certain that we were about to eat well.
Inside, the space is compact and seating is limited, but what struck me first was how much love clearly goes into the food. The aroma alone pulls you in and makes you want to linger. The place was packed, yet you could still hold a proper conversation with your friends. Between the food and the South Indian music playing in the background, it genuinely felt a little like home.
What We Ordered
My friend and I ordered a few dishes to share:
- Roti with Mutton Curry
- Nasi Goreng with Fried Egg
- Kari Laksa
- Iced Teh Tarik
Roti with Mutton Curry
The mutton curry was one of the best I have had in a long time.
The mutton was cooked perfectly, and the flavours came through clearly. As someone with plenty of experience cooking mutton myself, I know how easily it turns rubbery if you get it wrong. This curry leaned on flavour rather than heat, which makes it a dish almost anyone could enjoy. The roti, or parotta as we would call it in Tamil Nadu, was fluffy and cooked to perfection, and the portion was generous for the price.

Nasi Goreng with Fried Egg
This was my favourite dish of the evening. It came loaded with chicken and prawns, both cooked perfectly, and even the rice on its own was packed with flavour. Add the fried egg on top and it was pure comfort food. The portion here was just as generous as the roti.

Kari Laksa
My friend ordered the kari laksa, egg noodles in a warming coconut broth with seafood and tofu, and it was just as impressive. The broth was refreshing with a strong coconut flavour, and I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed the tofu. Having grown up eating a lot of paneer, tofu was never really my thing, but this changed my mind.

Iced Teh Tarik
To drink, we had the iced Teh Tarik, the Malaysian pulled tea. It was something I had never tried before and was exactly the refreshing hit we needed in the middle of a heatwave.

Value for Money
For two people, four dishes and drinks included, our bill came to around £52, roughly £26 each. Given the location, right by Euston, the pricing and the portions we received for the money were extremely generous. This is not a place where you feel like you are paying central London prices for central London portions.
Service and Overall Experience
The staff were excellent throughout the evening. Despite the place being slammed the entire time we were there, they still took the time to explain the dishes and offer recommendations. That kind of attentiveness under pressure says a lot about how the place is run.
Final Verdict
If you are near Euston and have a bit of time, I would highly recommend trying Roti King. Between the flavour, the portions, and the price, it is easily one of the best value meals I have had near a London train station in a while.
And if your train gets delayed or cancelled, consider it your excuse to go try some stunning food.
